A Letter from the Superintendent |

Last weekend, the boys were helping me clean out the garage. We didn't finish and still have plenty more to do, but there were a couple boxes that had the boys curious. They have been stacked on top of a shelf since we moved here. As a matter of fact, the newspaper that was wrapped around some of the items were from 1991 so they had not been opened in a long time. Anyway, during our 30 minutes of cleaning and 3 hours of looking through boxes labeled, "Bobby's High School Stuff" I was able to tell them all kinds of stories about the pictures, certificates, letters, and trinkets that were very important to me many years ago. The stories were great, at least in my mind. If you think about it, you remember the songs, clothes, vehicles, and everything else that was "cool" when you were in school. It seems like you remember the best of times and the worst of times. As we work with our students each day, take time to remember that they are making memories each and every day-of you, their friends, and the things going on in their lives. Make sure that as they go through boxes stacked in a garage with their own kids one day in the future, that they can remember you with all the good memories they have of school. We are in the middle of TAKS testing season and that may create good memories for some students and maybe not for others. I know it is stressful on you, but don't forget it is stressful on the kids too. They feel the pressure to succeed as well. Prepare them in a way that this years testing will be something they remember with fondness. Oh, I did put the boxes back on the shelf. Maybe I can share the stories with my grandkids in another 20 years.
