Coach James Herrera

My name is Coach James Herrera and I am returning for my second year as Offensive Coordinator and sixth consecutive year at Trinity ISD. This is my 14th year as a teacher/ coach, having previously coached at Calallen ISD and Liberty Hill ISD, where I was a defensive assistant for the 2007 3A Division 1 Football State Champions. I am apart of the class of 2000 alum of A.C. Jones High School in Beeville, Texas. I was selected to the district 30-4A All- district team as a sophomore at offensive tackle. My junior season I was 2nd team All- district at defensive tackle. As a senior, I returned to the offensive line and was co-captain of the 1999 team. The Trojan team of 1999 broke numerous offensive records en route to a 9-3 finish as district co-champions and bi-district champions. Their playoff win ended a 16 year playoff drought. At season’s end, I was named first team All district 30-4A, first team CC Caller-Times All South Texas team, second team Victoria Advocate All-Area team, and first team Bay Area Sports All-South Texas team. Upon graduation, I attended Coastal Bend College for one year before transferring to Southern Arkansas University as a preferred walk-on. After my red shirt year, I was promoted to the travel squad and received an athletic scholarship. I concluded my college career as a four year letterman. I was the starting left guard on the 2003 Mulerider team that made the NCAA Division 2 playoffs, finishing as one of the top 16 teams in the country. In May of 2006, I received a Bachelors of Arts in criminal justice with a double minor in spanish and psychology. I am happily married to Dana Leigh Ray of Trinity. We have two sons, Jordan and Jayden, ages 9 and 6. We are expecting a daughter, Payton, in February of 2020.
